Welcome to my site!  I’m Angela Shelton.  Some of you may know me as an actress and filmmaker and others as a public speaker and activist or maybe a friend of yours sent you my Facebook page! I have appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, 48 Hours Investigates, NPR, Lifetime Television for Women and the cover of the New York Times.  This is my personal site where I share what I’ve learned during a life of being an outspoken rebel female entrepreneur.  People have tried to define me and others have asked them not to.

I am a teacher and a seeker of ways to lead a full joyful life on all levels.

I lead a very varied life, wear many hats and create many things.  I share most everything on this site from living a full life to getting rid of panic over the technical age we’re in! You may have seen my documentary Searching for Angela Shelton (and if you haven’t you can watch it for free here).  Due to the huge following and movement the movie created, I started the Survivor Manual. You can read an interview with me about making my doc and Frequently Asked Questions here. I tell people to stop hurting children. I teach women how to make money.  I guide you toward your inner geek.  I do comedy.  I teach people how to cook. I mediate.  I love my life and I share ways to love your too.  I believe that it is not about “I” at all, but that this life is a vehicle for service to inspire and empower others to lead full joyful lives.  It’s my pleasure to share.  I share what I know and my life is my teaching.

You can read testimonials of what others have said here.

Filmmaker

tumbleAfter booking the lead role in Gavin O’Connor’s first film, “Comfortably Numb”, I teamed up with Gavin and we adapted my first novel into the film Tumbleweeds.
The film won the filmmaker’s trophy at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and brought the lead actress, Janet McTeer, an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. charmsI began writing screen and teleplays and received outstanding reviews for my adaptation of Kaye Gibbon’s novel Charms for the Easy Life for Showtime starring Gena Rowlands and Mimi Rogers.

I made my directing debut by traveling America interviewing other Angela Sheltons in an effort to survey random women. The multi-award winning film SEARCHING FOR ANGELA SHELTON surprised my and the world when it put a spotlight on sexual abuse and domestic violence and started a grassroots movement of healing for abuse survivors worldwide. I became a hero among women and have spoken in Congress, universities, military bases, high schools, elementary schools, community centers, conferences and seminars. The Justice Department presented me with a certificate of appreciation for my work on behalf of crime victims. The mayor of Asheville, NC made April 29th Angela Shelton Day in honor of all abuse survivors.

My new movie that I am writing and directing is called Hawk Dances. Please be a fan on Facebook. This is the feature film based on the true story about how one Native American’s vision became an international movement to protect children – Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). BACA is a non-profit organization that exists to create a safer environment for abused children. BACA works in conjunction with local and state officials and stands as an actual shield between the child and the perpetrator. BACA does not condone the use of violence or physical force, however, if circumstances arise that they are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, they stand ready to be that obstacle. This movie is the story of how they came to stand strong today.  As a BACA child myself, it is an honor to bring their story to the big screen.

This is another cause related movie that is helped by the audience and supporters much like Searching for Angela Shelton was.  If you’d like to help the movie please gift whatever you can to Hawk Dances via paypal. Thank you!

I first began acting at 8 when I was a mime at the local mall. I went on to do some community theater and in my teens played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. I then went into the more lucrative career of modeling and focused on her writing during her down time. I landed the lead role of Meadow Adare in Gavin O’Connor’s first film, Comfortably Numb. I moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and booked a pilot every year that I auditioned. I was in TNT’s BIG TIME, Fox’s ELIE’S THEORY, and the TV version of SWINGERS called HOLLYWOOD TALES. I also appeared in guest star roles in BECKER, CHICAGO HOPE, PACIFIC BLUE and SILK STALKINGS. I got to work with Richard Benjamin when I did my first comedy role for the big screen in THE SHRINK IS IN outside of a guest star on HBO’s comedy show HARDCORE TV – which was a comedy show like Mad TV.

Here’s My Commercial Reel:

My favorite is that I was in AIR GUITAR NATION! As a COMEDIAN I am a regular on the Free Speech Show and Comedy Nation. I have also appeared at the Comedy Store.

When I booked the role as SAFE SIDE SUPERCHICK in the Safe Side Video Series, I was elated to do physical comedy, my own stunts, and get to play so many characters.

“I have a role that just came in that is perfect for you. I can’t think of anyone better to play this. You are just crazy enough to pull this off.” John Papsidera, casting director

Your kids will love these videos, trust me. They go nuts. It was so fun to do and even more fun to watch the kids’ reactions.

Modeling

ascomp1I began modeling after my mother had my astrology chart done and the reading said that a career in modeling would be very lucrative. My first modeling job was in Seventeen Magazine and the reading proved to be true when I moved to New York City and began modeling for Bill Blass. I moved to Paris when I was 19 and traveled around Europe modeling. I spent a lot of time in Milan, Italy where I worked for designers like Giorgio Armani and graced the pages of many Italian fashion magazines. Upon returning to New York from Europe , for years I worked for major catalogs from Bloomingdales to Macys until moving to Los Angeles in 1996 to pursue an acting career.
