Angela’s first manuscript became the movie “Tumbleweeds.” She then received outstanding reviews for adapting Kaye Gibbon’s novel Charms for the Easy Life, for Showtime starring Gena Rowlands. Angela went on to write many screenplays and her memoir, Finding Angela Shelton is mandatory in many Women’s Studies Programs. Angela is writing a new movie and a new book.
After booking the lead role in Gavin O’Connor’s first film, “Comfortably Numb”, Angela teamed up with Gavin and the pair adapted Angela’s first novel into the film Tumbleweeds.
The film won the filmmaker’s trophy at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and brought the lead actress, Janet McTeer, an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win.

The piece is capably adapted by writer Angela Shelton (“Tumbleweeds”), who does a particularly strong job of spreading out the narrative markers; for example, the easy-life that Charlie Kate receives at the beginning comes back at just the right moment, and the sporadic appearances of the town’s conventional and hapless doctor (Wayne Robson) build up to a well-designed climax.

Angela made her directing debut by traveling America interviewing other Angela Sheltons in an effort to survey random women. Her multi-award winning film Searching for Angela Shelton surprised her and the world when it put a spotlight on sexual abuse and domestic violence and started a grassroots movement of healing for abuse survivors worldwide.
