Your call will be answered by a staff person – we don’t expect you’ll actually reach the legislator. I just called and the woman was incredibly nice!
Tell them your name, your city and then say the following:
“I’m calling to ask Senator Leno to please become lead sponsor on the bill to audit the family court.”
That’s it! The staff person will take your name and record your request.
(of course you can say more if you want – tell them why an audit of the family courts is important to you) I just called and told them who I was and what I did and how disgusting family courts are and to please support the bill to audit them!
Please help us in this last minute push to ensure this legislation is considered during this legislative session!
We need your action TODAY – Friday Feb 20 - to help a critical piece of legislation get off the ground.
Californial lawmakers have put forth a package of bills to reform family courts in California. One bill would conduct seeking an audit of the family court system, while another has submitted a bill that would limit the types of testimony that can be used in custody proceedings.
An audit by the State Auditor of the family courts is good for everyone who uses the family courts- children, mothers and fathers!
Family Court Reform Advocates have succeeded in getting a legislative sponsor for an official request to audit the family courts in two California counties- Marin and Sacramento However, the lead sponsor of the audit, Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, was severely pressured and has now decided to drop her name off of the audit.
We only have until 5pm today (Friday Feb. 20th) to secure a new lead sponsor to audit the Marin and Sacramento family courts.
Please contact Senator Mark Leno today to urge him to sign on as the lead sponsor on the JLAC request for a family court audit in Marin and Sacramento. He has already signed on as a co-author, but he is currently deciding about whether or not to take the lead.
