Getting off the Trauma Train and onto the Joy Jet
Angela Shelton is amazing. She speaks for every abused person who has lived through the same hell.
~ Rosie O’Donnell
“It is time to get off the Trauma Train and get a ticket for the Joy Jet. Enough trauma, we need some Giggle Therapy!” Angela says. She asks why so many of us live with pain and suffering and keep moving back to it over and over again. In this powerful presentation, Angela tells the story of how she went Searching for Angela Shelton and discovered the epidemic of sexual and domestic violence. After being on the road speaking with her film for years she has spoken to over 30,000 survivors and seen common threads from trauma=health problems to the repeated cycles of violence and self-abuse. She has seen how communities help the violence continue and what they can do to break the cycle.
Angela reveals the secrets of how she turned her own repeated pain and suffering into a life full of Joy and Happiness. She gives how-to steps to empower others to be Superheroes too.
Angela can share her award-winning film Searching for Angela Shelton at this event. Please go to the store to purchase your public performance licenses.
Angela is an unstoppable force for honor, justice, courage. By finding her voice she has given permission to tens of thousands of survivors to say, ‘me too, it happened to me….’ and thus begin their own journey of healing and recovering. As an organization that focuses on teaching responsible adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly we realize there are many aspects of the complicated issue of child sexual abuse we do not cover. And for the support, healing and how to become a healthy viable ‘force’ in the world, with honor, we point to Angela Shelton!

Removing the Sword of Trauma
Download the Survivor Manual Warrior Workbook.
During her years on the road interviewing thousands of people Angela has seen many patterns of repeated trauma, heal issues, self-abuse and recurring violence. She came up with the theory of the Sword of Trauma. Trauma – like rape, incest, child sexual abuse, domestic violence or neglect – is like getting pierced with a sword. Being pierced with the sword of trauma can leave you silent, frozen in fear, stuck, and in pain. It is nearly impossible to have intimate relationships. Being wounded by the sword of trauma can make you quick to anger, depressed, or isolated. It causes health problems. You can have chronic migraines, body aches, bad memories, insomnia, or numbness. Being wounded makes it hard to breathe deeply. You can live with the sword pierced through you. You can ignore the fact that you are wounded and deal with the symptoms and instead of the cause. You can get into relationships with other people who are wounded. You can live in entire communities that are in pain. Keeping the sword in place is living in denial. Denial is a powerful choice that you have the freedom to make. When you see the sword and realize you are wounded, you can also see how you are affecting yourself and the world around you. You can see that you can live a much healthier life when you remove the sword that wounded you.
This event is also great for children and teens and covers bullying and gossip. It is also perfect for those working in the trauma field from social workers, nurses and therapists.
During this hilarious and healing event Angela takes the audience through the 5 steps of Removing the Sword of Trauma.
- Step 1 – Acknowledging the Sword
- Step 2 – Removing the Sword
- Step 3 – Healing the Wound
- Step 4 – Using Your Sword
- Step 5 – Practice Sword Play

Outside the Box – Being an Entertainment Entrepreneur
After years of working in the independent film world Angela shares secrets on creating a powerful film, gathering a grassroots audience and distributing your film or creative project independently and directly to your audience. She believes that artists and filmmakers should make a profit on their projects. She teaches you how to do just that.
Angela’s first film, Tumbleweeds, that she co-wrote with Gavin O’Connor based on her book, won the 1999 Sundance filmmaker’s trophy and garnered the lead actress, Janet McTeer and Golden Globe win and an Academy Award nomination. After writing for TV and film, Angela took to the road during the writer’s strike to create her multi-award winning documentary Searching for Angela Shelton. The powerful movie began a grassroots movement of healing for abuse survivors worldwide. Angela turned down offers to purchase the rights and instead kept the movie independent and run by the audience for the audience. Angela is truly and independent filmmaker and entrepreneur. Her many accolades only fuel her desire for independence and ways to help other filmmakers and artists. The audience rules the game. Angela educates artists about how to gather and nurture their audience in an authentic way whether they are working on a movie, product or a book. In a time when you either communicate directly with your audience or be lost in the chaos of the Internet and the studios jockeying for position, social media is a must for those who don’t want to be swallowed and/or lost.
Angela shares tips and how-tos for filmmakers, writers and artists have not ventured into the social media world or are nervous and/or irritated by it. She also teaches you how to do your own distribution and bypass a system that tends to rob artists. Angela is dedicated to helping others lead joyful lives and reach their full potential while breaking through all molds and boxes. You can find Angela Shelton on twitter.com/angelashelton.

All Angela needs is a stage and a wireless mic.
She uses a Keynote presentation on a Mac laptop. Please provide a PC projector (used for Powerpoint presentations) and Angela has the correct connections to use her Mac with your projector. The presentation does have sound. For places that do not have a projector, Angela just needs a wireless mic and a bottle of water.
