After booking the lead role in Gavin O’Connor’s first film, “Comfortably Numb”, Angela teamed up with Gavin and the pair adapted Angela’s first novel into the film Tumbleweeds.
The film won the filmmaker’s trophy at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and brought the lead actress, Janet McTeer, an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. Angela began writing screen and teleplays and received outstanding reviews for her adaptation of Kaye Gibbon’s novel Charms for the Easy Life for Showtime starring Gena Rowlands and Mimi Rogers.

Angela made her directing debut by traveling America interviewing other Angela Sheltons in an effort to survey random women. Her multi-award winning film Searching for Angela Shelton surprised her and the world when it put a spotlight on sexual abuse and domestic violence and started a grassroots movement of healing for abuse survivors worldwide. Angela became a hero among women and has been invited to speak in Congress, universities, military bases, high schools, elementary schools, community centers, conferences and seminars. The Justice Department presented Angela with a certificate of appreciation for her hard work on behalf of crime victims. The mayor of Asheville, NC made April 29th Angela Shelton Day in honor of all abuse survivors. Angela has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, 48 Hours Investigates, NPR, Lifetime Television for Women and the cover of the New York Times.

This is the feature film based on the true story about how one Native American’s vision became an international movement to protect children – Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). BACA is a non-profit organization that exists to create a safer environment for abused children. BACA works in conjunction with local and state officials and
stands as an actual shield between the child and the perpetrator. BACA does not condone the use of violence or physical force, however, if circumstances arise that they are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, they stand ready to be that obstacle. This movie is the story of how they came to stand strong today.
