I was just at the Good News Foundation event this weekend. I went with State of Mind Water who was one of the sponsors. Tanya Walters was the ricipenant of one of the grants given by Good News.
I got to meet Tanya Walters and she is really amazing. She founded The Godparents Club. Tanya has made it her mission in life to help kids find their way by showing them the world. The lack of interest being shown to the academically-weak and underprivileged teens that Walters encountered as school bus driver appalled her. She said, “So who is it that’s going to take the time to sit down with not your A and B students, but your C, D, and F students? The students that are most often left behind. Nobody was doing it.” So she takes them on the road for 30 days and shows them the world and guess what – all of their grades increase because they see that there is a world outside of their own story.
