Being Handicapped and then Out of Pain!

Thank you to the Life Vessel for helping me get back on my bike!

I am finally out of the wheelchair, walking and up on stage again, and best of all I’m back on my mountain bike again!   Thanks to the lovely people at the Life Vessel in Santa Fe, I am now able to walk with no pain and no surgery!

As many of you who are my Facebook friends know, I injured my back very badly as I was traveling to a speaking gig last year.  I had a herniated disk and three compressed disks.  It was the worst pain of my entire life.  I’d take an ex husband and my dad over that pain any day.  That was some serious pain. I’ve never experienced anything like it.  I was in a wheelchair for eight weeks and had to fly on 27 planes and do speaking engagements while bent over in a back brace, but I kept my sense of humor!  Only those who had been through it could understand and helped me – much like other types of pain like child sexual abuse.

With the help of Aly Drummond, Lindsay Eberts and Fiona Eberts, Denise Sherwin and all the lovely people at the Life Vessel, I was able to avoid surgery and get back on my feet again, literally.

I was flying into Kansas City, MO to speak at the MOCSA event recently and my flight was canceled due to the fact that a cable was broken, causing the plane to have no brakes! Everyone on board lined up and was in a fuss to get on board the next flights out. I was unable to stand up so I couldn’t stand in line at all.  I had to sit and wait for another wheelchair when this lovely woman named Tammy offers to stand in line for me.  She was able to get the last two seats on the next flight to Kansas.  We had to transfer in Washington, DC though.  When the skycab in DC literally pushed me to the curb and left me stranded there with no wheelchair and no help with my bags, Tammy was the one who found a new wheelchair, got me and my bags safely to the next plane just in time and saved the day.  Sticking with the repeated message in Searching for Angela Shelton that everything happens for a reason, it turned out that Tammy worked for Meet Up.com unlike other social networks, it is all about meeting in person in your community.  This came after I’d been saying or years that the Army of Angels need to meet in person!  I still say libraries are the best places.

I love little miracles.  The next miracle for me is to be on a fixed bike!  That’s no gears, no breaks.  Oh just you wait. Much more fun to come. A dancing rig for trapeze, ariel dancing and circus tricks is being built in my backyard.

I shot the video to your right so you could see my giddy-joyousness on my bike.  You may not be able to text and drive but I can film and bike!  I can even ride with no hands. :)
