Lame Holiday Gifts

What is it with all these gifts that people scramble to get in this season that are so lame?  Why buy? Why send cards?  What about the cards from corporations you get?  Really? I mean really?  Can’t you send an E-card?  What’s with all this waste?  Because it’s Christmas?  It’s December, and once a year (well, actually at every holiday) we are bombarded with buy buy buy!  Then come the bonuses.  Then you have to tip your doorman if you’re in NYC and it better be a nice fat tip or they will let the door hit you on the ass for a year.  I know, been there.

What happened to giving food?  Where’s the firewood?

Aren’t we in a recession?  Haven’t we learned anything?  Aren’t we in this predicament because of overspending, overindulging and over-believing that Santa will come and bring us our wish list for being so good.  I suggest it’s time to give love instead of material things.  I’m just saying.

Where did that lame ass gift come from anyway?  Wasn’t that made in some factory by lord knows who?  Plus it costs money to go to the over priced over packed shopping mall.  It stresses you out.  And you’re just going to go back there after the holiday for all the sales.  It costs money to purchase whatever item you think you have to buy on the budget you have in order to get something for everyone so you get things that people don’t even like.  Then it costs money to wrap that item (unless you’re very clever with wrapping like my mother).  Then you have to ship whatever space waster you got so there’s freight costs.  And finally the receiver gets this gift that means absolutely nothing to them or to you for that matter and then what?  You love them?  You’re friends now?  Does that make up for something?  You’re a holiday gift giver?

My suggestion is that you don’t spend any money on any crap.

Give something that’s made by you or just give some love.  Or take that 10 dollars and put it in a savings account and send an E-card that says “I’m saving for the future, I’m glad you’re in mine.”

PS – I’m saving for the future of this site and I’m glad you’re on it.
