Rebel Hearts – August 30th in Los Angeles

Radical Woman have shown my documentary before in LA.  They are a great group and I love the choices they make in the films they show.

Women’s Rights Day Celebration and Film Showing:

Rebel Hearts: The Grimke Sisters is a groundbreaking documentary that highlights the lives of Sarah and Angelina Grimke, anti-slavery movement leaders and early feminists. Their demand for full participation in the abolitionist struggle split some of the male leadership at the time. These heroines recognized – along with Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth – that female equality was inextricably linked to Black emancipation. Ultimately, their role in the battle to end slavery paved the way to found the suffrage movement that won some U.S. women the right to vote in 1920. Share your ideas about how to build a multi-racial movement to protect and expand gains for working women and people of color.
Beatriz Paez, Chicana queer feminist and immigrant rights advocate, will host this special event and discussion.

This event begins at 2pm at Solidarity Hall, 2170 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles (off the 10 Freeway at Western Ave., on bus lines #35, 207, 550). Door donation is $5. A summer buffet, with vegetarian option, will be served at 1:00 p.m. for an $8 donation.
