Testimonials

Angela, Angela, Angela!
Thank you for making such a powerful movie and for coming to Brockport to share your story and your mission. I am also a survivor. Your courage is inspiring and contagious! I am writing to let you know what an impact you had on me. I GOT IT! It's been almost 5 years since the last time I was raped and I finally GOT IT! This is not my shame! This is his! NOT MINE! For the first time in my life, Angela, I woke up this morning and knew beyond a matter of a doubt that there will be no more secrets about the abuse - starting NOW. I was so excited that I had to leave a voicemail for my therapist to let her know that "I got it and I never want to shut up about it again." Thank you for that. What an amazing gift you gave me, that I have been unable to give to myself until now. I am working on writing a memoir, Letters from Rapeland. Last night's event re-lit the creative flame in me and reminded me in a big way of the NEED to get this out there, no matter what the cost for me. It will probably still be years, as I am a working single mom who is also a student, but it's going to happen, because it NEEDS to. Thank you, and God bless. You have a beautiful spirit!

Love, Leah Fromm from SUNY Brockport

I am so thankful you have shared your story.  You are impacting lives all over the world.

I am a volunteer with the Rape Crisis Center in Las Vegas, where you spoke this month. I am glad to know there are people out there who see the need for the type of work that gives control back to victims so they can become survivors. Together we can build a stronger family of women across the globe.  Thank you for all you do.

"Angela amazed and inspired an entire community in the few hours we spent with her. With crystal clear honesty, Angela educated us, moved us, and then lent us her heart and soul as we shared ourselves with her and were comforted. Everyone left forever changed by the Angela Shelton experience, her words still echoing in the rafters of the theatre, 'I am Angela Shelton -- and I am not alone.' "

Abigail Jane Elliott, Umpqua Community College

"Angela Shelton has a presence on a platform that cannot be ignored; when she shows up, people listen. All eyes, all ears are on Angela when she speaks. Her messages are expressions of what people need in order to empower themselves and open lines of communication. Hearing Ms Shelton speak always has a valuable impact on me and my colleagues!"

Author of "Beyond the Tears: A True Survivor's Story"

”Angela brings both tears and laughter to the audience, thus allowing all survivors to heal in a very personal way.  Survivors finally felt that they were not alone and that someone understood.   Having Angela Shelton visit a community is a remarkable way to bring the epidemic of abuse and assault to the forefront of people’s minds and awareness.  Angela has a gift that many connect with and many can relate to.  Her story could very well be and is everyone’s story.  It was an amazing evening with an even more amazing woman.”

"Everyone's story is unique and I don't think anyone finds it easy to tell theirs. Angela listens, understands, accepts and cares about every person she speaks to and you cannot begin to know how important that is unless you are a survivor yourself.  No one left either event that day without being impacted by her.....

...Angela truly changes lives and, I believe, has likely saved quite a few.  What she has to say needs to be heard.  Finding ones voice is the only way to truly survive a fractured childhood.  She has given so many people their voice already.   There are still so many more who need to speak their truth."

"Absolutely awesome. It is Friday and people are still talking about the event. My Friday class of 99% males actually spent most of the morning talking about the event and how much they learned. Praise over the event has been on the radio, news, and in the paper every day this week."

"Being a survivor, it's often hard listening to others speak of similar experiences. Listening to you however, has made me realize that I am not alone and that I no longer have to hold onto this secret. We have to break the silence. Thank you for sharing your story and allowing me a chance to tell mine."

"Thank you for being a voice for me until I found my own voice. Thank you for showing me the courage to ask for help and begin healing."

“Thank you for making a difference."
