My mission is to inspire and empower everyone I meet to lead joyful lives, no matter what they’ve been through.  This is exactly what I do when I am on stage, especially when I am talking about difficult subjects like child sexual abuse or rape.

“It is time to get off the Trauma Train and get a ticket for the Joy Jet. Enough trauma, we need some Giggle Therapy!”

In this humorous and powerful presentation that has been called Be Your Own Hero, Humorous Healing and Break the Cycle I tell the story of how creating my documentary, Searching for Angela Shelton, propelled me into the face of the epidemic of sexual and domestic violence. I share how I went from thinking it would be funny to being mortified by the thousands of stories I heard, including my own.

But after speaking to over 30,000 survivors and advocates, I came up with the theory of the Sword of Trauma.  Trauma – like abuse, neglect or bullying – is like being pierced with a sword. Being pierced with the sword can leave you silent, frozen in fear, stuck, and in pain.  It is nearly impossible to have intimate relationships or a fun joyful life while you are sporting a sword and the pain from it!  You can have chronic migraines, body aches, bad memories, insomnia, or numbness.

After watching people apply the tips from my theory in their lives and do complete 180s, I put together the Be Your Own Hero Workbook.

During this presentation I go through the 5 stages of the sword, from acknowledging your pain to healing and using it for good.  It is powerful and hilarious.

This event is also great for children and teens and covers bullying and gossip. It is also perfect for those working in the trauma field from social workers, nurses and therapists. This event is also available as an interactive workshop.

 ~ Breaking the Cycle of Trauma ~

As child sexual abuse continues to show up in the media, the silence is broken again and again.  I speak to audiences in any community from churches to military bases to educate them about the realities of child sexual abuse, how to protect your children from perpetrators and stop child abuse by stopping the denial of it.

My presentation is educational and entertaining. I use a lot of humor to make the horrible subject of abuse palatable for audiences to actually listen. Every time I have spoken at one of these events, survivors in the audience come forward and communtities are armed with what they need to protect themselves and heal those who have been wounded.

This is all about Community and there is no Community without Unity and there is no Unity without U!

~ Making an Artistic Living ~

After years of working as an independent artist Angela shares secrets on creating your book, film or other creative project, gathering an audience and distributing your work yourself.  She believes artists and filmmakers should make a profit on their projects and teaches you ways you can do just that.

Angela’s first film, Tumbleweeds, that she co-wrote with Gavin O’Connor based on her first novel, won the 1999 Sundance filmmaker’s trophy and garnered the lead actress, Janet McTeer and 2000 Golden Globe win and an Academy Award nomination. After writing for TV and film, Angela took to the road during the pending Writer’s strike to create her multi-award winning documentary Searching for Angela Shelton. The powerful movie began a grassroots movement of healing for abuse survivors worldwide.

In this presentation Angela shares with you the pitfalls, lessons and miracles she experienced along the way, educating filmmakers, writers and artists how to create and distribute their products independently.

There is no filming allowed of Angela Shelton without her prior consent and under no circumstances can any film, tape, audio or any recording whatsoever be sold in any form unless you have permission.
